    to: clarify the objectives of the Renewable Energy Target (RET) scheme; increase annual targets for renewable energy generation from 2010; implement a Solar Credits mechanism; require a review of the legislation and regulations in 2014 and for the review to be tabled in Parliament; provide partial exemptions from liability for certain activities; provide for the transition of existing and proposed State renewable energy target schemes; enable power stations utilising waste coal mine gas as a fuel source to participate in the RET scheme for a specified period; and further increase the annual targets under the scheme for the years during which this fuel source will be eligible.

    Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000
    to: separate the Renewable Energy Target scheme into the Large-scale Renewable Energy Target and the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme and create obligations on liable entities; establish an optional clearing house for the transfer of certificates; provide for an enforcement and compliance framework which includes a civil penalty regime; enable corporations to apply for partial exemption certificates; and provide for waste coal mine gas in the renewable energy target. Also contains application and transitional provisions.
