Federal Government Agencies and Select Policy Documents

  • The Commonwealth Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources (DITR) is responsible for tourism at the national level.
  • The Tourism Forecasting Council provides authoritative forecasts of inbound and domestic tourism activity. It is now part of the new body, Tourism Australia.
  • Tourism Australia is the Federal Government statutory authority responsible for international tourism marketing as well as the delivery of research and forecasts for the sector. The new national tourism organisation,was officially launched 1 July 2004. It brings together the Australian Tourist Commission, See Australia, the Bureau of Tourism Research and the Tourism Forecasting Council.
  • Tourism on the Move, The Federal Department of Industry Tourism and Resources produced a bi-monthly newsletter reporting on Australian government policy and current trends in the tourism industry (last issue: August 2004).
