Background Notes

For Senators, Members and Parliamentary staff only

Background Notes are documents produced by the Parliamentary Library. They provide summaries of useful, frequently asked for information, or updates on evolving subjects, such as progress on policy initiatives, legislation or other important developments. They ensure that quick responses to subjects raised frequently are readily available at any time and can be accessed directly by clients. They may be updated from time to time as appropriate, or on demand. As such they are more informal than the Library’s publications and like Client Memoranda, are not published documents and not for attribution; they are available to parliamentary clients, online only, through the Parliament’s intranet.

Background Notes are compiled/produced for Senators and Members of the Australian Parliament, for information only—not for publication, distribution or attribution.
