Salary
The salary or salary range of a vacancy in which you may be interested
will be shown in the advertisement notifying the vacancy. The Department's
Certified Agreements set out the salary range for each classification
in DPS. New staff to the department are generally engaged at the
minimum salary point in the relevant salary range.
Conditions of Service
Employees of DPS are employed under the Parliamentary Service Act 1999
and the Department
of Parliamentary Services Union Collective Agreement 2008-2011.
Terms and conditions of employment
All new employees to the department are required,
as a condition of their employment, to satisfy security, citizenship and
health requirements as well as certain other matters.
Security clearance
Certain tasks that are undertaken in the department
require security clearance. The security requirements for each job are
noted on the duty statement.
Police record check
All new employees to DPS are required to complete
a form that will be sent to the Australian Federal Police for a police
record check.
Citizenship
Section 22 of the Parliamentary Service Act
1999 requires that employees of the Parliamentary Service are generally
required to be Australian citizens. However, if you are not an Australian
citizen you may be considered for engagement on the condition that you
are able to gain Australian Citizenship within a specified time. Failure to obtain citizenship
within the timeframe could lead to termination of engagement.
Recipients of a voluntary redundancy
Former members of the Australian Public Service, Australian
Parliamentary Service or a non-APS Commonwealth employer who have accepted
a voluntary redundancy/severance benefit are generally ineligible
to be engaged within 12 months of their retirement from the APS.
Mobility between the Australian Public Service and the Parliamentary
Service
Section 26 of the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 provides for mobility
between the APS and Australian Public Service. Details of the
mobility provisions are also set out in Division 3.4 of Parliamentary
Service Determination 2003/2. The arrangements for the engagement of
ongoing APS employees for ongoing Parliamentary Service employment are
effectively the same as for moves within each service. Employees moving to
the Parliamentary Service for non-ongoing vacancies must obtain leave
without pay for the period involved.
