The Government will not proceed with the construction of a boat destruction facility in the Torres Strait to dispose of apprehended illegal foreign fishing vessels. Vessels can be disposed of at existing boat destruction facilities in other locations, including the facility at Skardon River near Weipa, Queensland. This measure will provide savings of $5.6 million in 2008‑09.
