Presiding Officers meet with President of the Bundestag

Presiding Officers with President of the Bundestag 

President of the German Bundestag, His Excellency Professor Dr Norbert Lammert, met with Australian presiding officers in Melbourne.

The President of the Senate, Senator Stephen Parry and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tony Smith MP, hosted a luncheon for the President Lammert in Mr Smith’s electorate of Casey.

During his brief visit to Melbourne, President Lammert undertook a serious of meetings, including with representatives from St Paul’s Cathedral and Melbourne Museum’s Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre, an interview with SBS radio and presenting awards at the Scholarships for Australia-German Student Exchange Gala Dinner.

President Lammert has previously paid an official visit to Australia as guest of the Parliament of Australia in October 2014, visiting Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra and Melbourne.

Germany’s Bundestag serves a similar function to Australia’s House of Representatives.
